Pardubice - After a long discussion, today the representatives of Pardubice once again "gave the green light" to the project of extensive revitalization of Tyršovy sady next to the castle. The city hall had previously suspended it due to reservations from part of the public and the withdrawal of the selected construction company. The representatives took note of the adjustment of the project documentation and instructed the city management to continue with the project. Opponents of the project particularly criticized the extensive tree and shrub removal and the high costs. According to the amended project, about 100 trees are to be removed, for example, a birch grove will be preserved at the northern end of the promenade. Trees will be left in the staircase from Republic Square to the park. The authors also abandoned the plan to build an artificial stream, and the benches, which had previously become a symbol of the project's high cost, will be cheaper. Each was supposed to cost almost 69,000 crowns, and there were to be 42 in the park. The project author, architect Tomáš Jiránek, stated that the design costs should not exceed 70 million crowns. The revitalization was originally supposed to cost 83 million crowns. The city hall wants to submit a new grant application to the Regional Council of the Cohesion Region of Northeast and announce a new tender for suppliers. Last autumn, at the request of Pardubice, the Regional Council extended the deadlines for the completion of projects from the integrated development plans of regional cities. By the end of next year, 75 percent must be exhausted, and by the end of 2014, 99 percent of the funds must be used. If the city fails to secure the grant, according to Deputy František Brandl, it could face penalties or repayment of grants for already implemented projects from the Integrated City Development Plan.
