Pardubice - The leadership of Pardubice wants to commission a new study for the adjustment of Tyršovy Sady in the city center next to the Pernštejn Castle. The city hall already has one proposal for the reconstruction of the park stemming from a public architectural competition in 2002. However, it will be necessary to create a current study that reflects the possibilities and needs of the city, said mayor Jaroslav Deml (ODS) to ČTK.
The council recommended to the representatives to revoke their several-year-old resolution that further stages of project documentation would be developed for the original study. "We want to free our hands for realistic design at reasonable prices. With the earlier proposal, we would have to respect copyright with any changes; moreover, we were bound by the fact that the author was to develop further projects," said Deml.
The winning architectural study, which partly drew from the original appearance of the park during the Exhibition of Physical Education and Sports in 1931, proposed a main promenade from Sukova Street across from Na Hrádku Street to the riverside road by the Elbe weir. The paths were to be repaired, water surfaces created, and public lighting installed. Interesting cafés were to be built at both entrances to the park, along the promenade towards U Stadionu Street, a series of water surfaces were to be established. The edge of Tyršovy Sady in the area of the former slaughterhouse on U Stadionu Street was to be developed, potentially including a hotel, sports center, apartment building, multicultural hall, restaurant, cafés, and other facilities including playgrounds.
According to Deml, the city is capable of creating a new study based on the knowledge of previous proposals, with the main architect leading the team, who could invite specialists of certain fields. "We know what we want and what it should look like. But, for example, the proposed water supply for the ponds would be very costly; we also want to separate the buildings on U Stadionu Street," Deml said.
The city hall wants to utilize a grant from the Regional Operational Program for the park adjustments. About 420 million crowns have been allocated for projects under it, and an Integrated City Development Plan has already been developed and approved for accessing funds. Originally, the costs were estimated at approximately 20 million crowns; now the mayor speaks of a possible amount up to five times higher.
