Pardubice - By the end of this year, Pardubice should have a clearer idea of what the area of Tyršovy sady adjacent to U stadionu street could look like in the future. Currently, the site is home to an unfinished shell of a sports hall and a former slaughterhouse. The first step, resolving ownership issues related to the properties, has already been taken by the city council. The city acquired the land beneath the sports hall through a complex three-party exchange with the state and the Pardubice region. The unfinished construction was purchased in 2010 from the Czech Union of Physical Education for one million crowns. "We will address the area along U stadionu street as a whole. I expect that a decision on the concept for this locality will be made by the end of this year," said the mayor's deputy Martin Bílek (Association for Pardubice) to ČTK. In the past, the city hall has presented several options for the use of the area. Considerations included a conference center with a banquet hall, a hotel, a wellness center, or another facility for recreational and sporting activities. Instead of the slaughterhouse, there could have been a visitor center for entertainment and science that would popularize various scientific fields to the public. However, the plan ultimately fell through because funding could not be obtained. Construction of the sports hall began in 1989, but two years later, construction was halted due to a lack of funds. In 1995, architect Soběslav Macas reworked the project, but construction never resumed. Now it can no longer be reconstructed as it is in very poor condition.
