Mělník - The proposal for a new design of the Mělník square of Charles IV will be available to the public in January on a special website and also at the town hall. Furthermore, a public presentation will be held on January 11 where people will be able to express their opinions on the overall concept and specific elements. This was announced today by the deputy mayor of Mělník, Milan Schweigstill.

The city has long been planning a complete transformation of the square, including the area that will be created after the demolition of the so-called America building, which is also referred to as Hold or Tehran. Demolition work is expected to begin in 2018 and will cost around 20 million crowns. Further tens of millions will be spent on the renovation of the square. A park and enough parking spaces will also be created in the area.

The proposal will be available on the website http://www.melnik.cityupgrade.cz/ no later than January 1. People will also find contacts on the website where they can send their comments. The presented study is not final; the city leadership will discuss it again with experts, and some suggestions from the public will also be incorporated.

A multifunctional library is also planned to be established in the former services building at the square, which will also serve as a community center. It is expected to start operating no sooner than in three years.
