Mělník - Mělník is processing comments on the proposal to modify Karl IV Square for tens of millions of crowns. The final project is to be completed later this year, after which work will begin. Since January, residents of the town have been able to view the proposal on the website, and a public presentation has also taken place. By the end of February, all municipal expert committees are to express their opinions, said Mělník's Deputy Mayor Milan Schweigstill at today's press conference.
The comments pertain to issues such as barrier-free solutions, relocating the fountain so it can be seen from the planned wooden terrace, possible addition of a tree avenue, or utilizing rainwater. "We believe that the insights and comments are very good," the deputy mayor stated. According to him, the architects will adjust the project based on this feedback, and another meeting with the proposers of the comments and the architects is planned.
New parking spaces will be created on Karl IV Square, greenery will be added, traffic will be moved to Nová Street, and the appearance of the area is expected to improve significantly.
The city has been planning the transformation of the square for several years. The proposal includes utilizing the space that will be created after the demolition of the so-called Amerika building, which is also known as Hold or Teherán. Demolition work is set to begin in 2018 and will cost approximately 20 million crowns. The modifications to the square will cost several tens of millions of crowns, with the exact price to be revealed after the completion of the project.
