Mělník - The Mělník city council will decide in December about the demolition of a partially built building from the socialist era in the city center known as Hold. They are likely to discuss the budget about a month earlier, but the amount for the demolition is not included in it yet. Milan Schweigstill, the deputy mayor of Mělník, said this to ČTK today.
The building is located in the Karel IV. square, which the city wants to completely renovate, primarily serving as a public space. The city is also looking for an investor who would build a new structure at the site of the demolished building with commercial spaces and primarily apartments. Ideally, they could also participate in the demolition, which, according to estimates, could cost more than ten million koruna.
Renovating the current building would be expensive and it would be difficult to adapt the structure to current requirements. "I firmly believe that a pragmatic approach will prevail," said the deputy mayor.
Previously, the city planned to decide on the demolition through a referendum. However, the city council did not support calling one, among other reasons due to the high costs of a public vote, which would amount to around half a million koruna.
