Brno - The Brno district of Jundrov, sought after for housing, is facing a discussion about its future development. According to one of the proposals for the new Brno urban plan, the population is expected to nearly double. Developers are interested in building in Jundrov; there are discussions about the development of gardening colonies. Jundrov currently has nearly 4000 residents. Mayor Ivana Fajnorová (Green for Jundrov) told CTK that the locals do not oppose development, but it must not come at the expense of greenery.
In Jundrov, there has long been talk of the possibility of developing the gardening colonies there. Discussions are underway regarding Juran and the area between Dubova Street and the river. The author of the urban plan concept, architect Jaroslav Dokoupil, described Juranka as a beautiful location. "If used for housing, it is above-standard living in close proximity to the city in a very nice environment. The problem with the location is that it is difficult to access," he said at a recent discussion about the future of Brno's gardening colonies.
According to Dokoupil, a forest blocks access from the Kohoutovice side. On the Jundrov side, there is no space for a road that would allow light public transport access due to its specifications.
The residents of Jundrov have differing views on the construction. Many landowners wish for the opportunity to build on their properties. "It's a beautiful southern slope," one of them said at the discussion about the gardens, noting that the gardens in the area are not maintained, partly because there is no water available. However, critics of the construction argue that no one tends to part of the gardens, as they were bought by developers and speculators in hopes of possible construction.
The new Jundrov coalition led by the Greens has not yet issued any stance on possible construction. The mayor herself does not wish for massive construction, although she does not oppose development. However, a condition is that the new development should only minimally affect greenery. Apparently, it does not even have to correspond to family houses. "Often, people pave the area around their house, put in a pool, and we do not see greenery there," she stated.
The residents of Jundrov will discuss development opportunities next week. Their developers will come to familiarize them with the variations of the urban plan concept.
