Břeclav - The start of the construction of a new funeral hall, as well as the construction of a roundabout near the main post office, flood control measures, and repairs of traffic lights at intersections will be among the largest investments in Břeclav in 2016. According to the city hall spokesperson Jiří Holobrádek, the city has allocated 74 million crowns for investment in next year's budget. An additional 77 million will go towards repairs and maintenance of property.

Břeclav has approved a budget for next year with revenues of 435 million and expenditures of 486 million. The deficit of 51 million will be covered by surpluses from previous years and part of a loan that the city will take amounting to a total of 90 million crowns. The city will use the loan for investments over the next several years.
The largest investment will be flood control measures at a cost of 80 million crowns. "Flood control measures will be the main investment project, which will be financed by a loan. The investor is Povodí Moravy, but Břeclav has a co-participation of 15 percent," Holobrádek informed. The city will thus pay around 12 million.
Further funds will be allocated to the adjustment of traffic lights at intersections in the city. Next year, the city will allocate five million, and for the next two years, it should allocate ten million each for traffic signalization. The mayor of Břeclav, Pavel Dominik (Pro Region), has previously stated that in the past, Břeclav only dealt with building a bypass to divert traffic from the center. However, according to Dominik, it is important to also work on the internal transport within the city, which could be expedited by replacing old traffic lights. They are not synchronized so that drivers can go with the so-called green wave. This is why congestion occurs.
There are also plans for the construction of a new funeral hall for 25 million, with part of the work for 10 million taking place in 2016 and the rest in 2017. According to Dominik, the old funeral hall has been a target of criticism from Břeclav residents for years. "It is outdated and does not meet aesthetic or operational standards," Dominik had said earlier. According to spokesperson Holobrádek, there are on average about 15 ceremonies per month in Břeclav.
Another investment will be the construction of a roundabout near the main post office for nearly four million crowns. "In 2016, project preparation will also start for a care home in the Poštorná district, which will be among the largest investments in the next two years," Holobrádek added. Next year, the project is expected to cost 300,000 crowns, with 8.4 million crowns allocated for 2017 as well as in 2018. "Other projects for the year 2016 for millions of crowns include a sidewalk and public lighting to the Tesco department store, revitalization of the Jana Palacha housing estate in the city center, or expansion of the city cemetery," Holobrádek concluded.
