Břeclav - The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone today marked the beginning of the demolition of the old ceremonial hall and the construction of a new one in Břeclav. The project will cost 45 million crowns and is expected to be completed by next July, said Jiří Holobrádek, spokesperson for the Břeclav city hall, to ČTK. The old mourning hall has been in use for over fifty years and does not meet operational or aesthetic requirements according to him. The hall hosts 15 to 20 ceremonies each month.
The laying of the foundation stone was attended by the leadership of Břeclav, led by Mayor Pavel Dominik (For the Region). "The demolition of the ceremonial hall will begin next Thursday. The new ceremonial hall, along with the area, should be completed by July 2, 2018," Holobrádek stated.
During the construction, Břeclav residents will use one of the two ceremonial halls in the Poštorná area or in Stará Břeclav, in consultation with the funeral service. The costs of 45 million crowns will include not only the construction of the new hall but also work on the surroundings, parking spaces, and facilities for visitors waiting for the ceremony. "The city will cover all costs from its budget," the spokesperson said.
The ceremonial hall has been in operation since November 1965. Discussions about its reconstruction have been ongoing for some time. The previous city leadership decided to commission a study for a new hall and contacted three architects who submitted their proposals. "However, the situation did not progress further. The new leadership made the construction of the hall one of the points in its program declaration and invited all three architects. Ultimately, they decided to use the design of architect Libor Foukal," Holobrádek added.
