Jáchymov - The town of Jáchymov criticizes the plans of Boží Dar for an extension to the hotel at the top of Klínovec. Mayor František Holý (Local) points out a fundamental contradiction with the valid zoning plan, which clearly sets restrictions on construction in this area. The city's leadership, on whose cadastral land the Mountain Hotel Klínovec stands, stated this in a press release today. The mayor of Boží Dar, Jan Horník (STAN), was surprised by this information and will have to verify it with officials, he told ČTK in response to the Jáchymov press release.

As stated by the leadership of the town of Jáchymov, according to available information, the municipality of Boží Dar, in cooperation with the company Prague Season, plans to expand the accommodation capacity of the hotel by approximately 80 beds. The project includes an extension with a total area of 2,500 square meters, which according to Jáchymov is in direct conflict with the zoning plan that allows for a maximum of 30 percent of the area to be built upon. "The idea of an extension to a historical hotel is, however, in direct contradiction with the zoning plan valid for the mountain peak," said the mayor of Jáchymov.

According to Boží Dar's mayor Horník, however, representatives of Boží Dar were present during the approval of the zoning plan for the neighboring Jáchymov. If some restrictive conditions made it into the final version, it could have been done to deliberately disadvantage Boží Dar. Horník told ČTK today that Jáchymov goes hand in hand with the Klínovec Ski Area, with which, on the contrary, the town of Boží Dar is involved in several disputes.

Mayor Holý of Jáchymov emphasizes that a protective zone of 50 meters from historical buildings is in place at the top of Klínovec. These conditions are indeed present in the zoning plan that Jáchymov has on its website. According to the mayor of Jáchymov, the planned extension would additionally negatively affect the appearance of a place that has long been a dominant feature of the region with a hotel and lookout tower over 100 years old. According to Horník, however, without the extension, the entire project of renovating the historical hotel would not be economically sustainable.

"Jáchymov welcomes the effort to renovate the dilapidated building, but rejects any deliberate violation of the valid zoning plan. The city's leadership is prepared to defend the preservation of the character of this significant landscape area and calls on Boží Dar to respect the approved regulations," stated the leadership of Jáchymov.

Boží Dar has pushed the project for the rescue of the mountain hotel, including its extension, among the strategic projects of the Karlovy Vary Region in the European Union's Just Transformation funding program, which helps coal regions. At the end of last year, the town signed a contract with Prague Season, which is to operate it for at least 25 years. The repairs amounting to 415 million crowns are to be largely covered by European grants and partially by the owner of the hotel, Boží Dar. Prague Season will also contribute to the financing.
