Břeclav - Representatives of the city hall in Břeclav opened a new mourning hall today for more than 50 million crowns. It was the largest investment project in the current electoral period, and from next week, the funeral company will start planning ceremonies. Jiří Holobrádek, spokesman for the Břeclav city hall, told ČTK. The hall has 200 seats, and 56 parking spaces have been created. According to Deputy Mayor Jaroslav Válka (ČSSD), the old hall was inadequate and small. The city demolished it. There were around 20 ceremonies held monthly in the hall.
The work took about a year. A total of 120 seats are available for sitting, while the rest is for standing. "We had an old ceremonial hall, but its dimensions were no longer suitable. There were just a few dozen seats, and people had nowhere to sit. It was not pleasant in the heat, and in winter it was as cold as outside," Válka stated.
The hall is also equipped with new audio and video technology. "It will allow, for example, projecting from the life of the deceased," added Válka. Additionally, there is air conditioning and a covered entrance.
The investment was financed by the city from its own budget. Part of it included the construction of a new parking lot. According to city hall management, parking could previously only be done by the road. The old ceremonial hall had been in operation since November 1965.
