Modern design and technically innovative solutions often find inspiration in seemingly ordinary, originally purely practical elements. A perfect example is the patented door hardware Magnetic, for which the manufacturer unconventionally drew inspiration from the magnetic opening of a refrigerator...
Control of swing doors without a handle, without a lock, without electronics... that is the novel Magnetic system, whose innovative solution has been confirmed by the granting of a national patent. Where did the Czech manufacturer M&T draw its inspiration for its development? "We thought about the most frequently used and simultaneously most reliable functional element of every household... and it turned out to be a refrigerator. Specifically, its door with a control handle and securing magnets, which together create a proven flawless control over the years," describes Roman Ulich, chief designer of the Magnetic system and designer at M&T, the only Czech manufacturer of design door hardware, and he continues: "And this is precisely where we drew inspiration for Magnetic, a new control system for swing doors. We merely refined it further – we placed the securing magnets in the door frame and the door leaf so that they would pass by each other. They interact only through magnetic force, which can also be intuitively adjusted using an Allen key."
By ensuring that there is no mechanical contact in the system, wear and tear of the components is eliminated, thus prolonging the lifespan of the entire system. And since magnetic closing does not require a traditional handle, special ergonomic handles have been designed for Magnetic, which accentuate the attractiveness of the entire system’s design, which even received the Red Dot Design Award for the year 2020.
