Revolutionary M&T magnetic system made a splash with the antipodes!

From Sydney, Australia, the prestigious Good Design Award Gold 2020 has arrived for the Czech manufacturer of design door fittings, M&T, for the revolutionary door opening system, Magnetic! This entry was submitted by Two Tease / Architectural Hardware, which represents M&T in Australia and New Zealand. The Czech Magnetic competed successfully among nearly a thousand projects from around the world.

The Good Design Awards Australia has been one of the most prestigious awards given in Australia since 1958. It highlights new products and services in the Australian market, tracks innovations in architecture, and explores sustainable design and architecture with a focus on social impact for a better, safer, and more prosperous world. This year’s competition attracted a record 835 international projects, from which a jury of 55 experts selected the best. "We are very pleasantly surprised and delighted that Magnetic succeeded in such immense competition of great products and projects from all over the world. We highly value this success; it is a sign that we have developed a truly unique product in the field of door fittings here in the Czech Republic that can compete on a global scale," says Ivo Ulich, owner of M&T.

The Magnetic system impressed the jury not only with its innovative solution but also with its clean, unobtrusive design and comfortable, silent operation. "Winning the Good Award Australia is a significant achievement for the Czech brand M&T and its revolutionary door system Magnetic. It is not easy to succeed in foreign competition, especially with a record number of submissions. Their excellent design also represents hard work and a commitment to an innovative result that can improve all our lives. I like that Magnetic is a timeless and above all sustainable product that will outlast us all," adds Dr. Brandon Gein, CEO of Good Design Australia, providing reasons for the award of the Magnetic system.


The Good Design Award Gold is the second significant award for Magnetic. This revolutionary door control system has also celebrated success in Europe, where this spring it wowed the expert jury in Essen, Germany, and received the Red Dot Design Award 2020.

What is M&T magnetic?

The Magnetic system operates entirely on the principle of magnetic force, where a block of very strong magnets is incorporated into the door frame, and their counterpart is made of magnetic stainless steel integrated into the door. When both parts are brought close together, the magnetic force smoothly and almost silently closes the door, without the extension of any bolt element. The strength of the mutual interaction of the magnets can also be regulated using an Allen wrench.
