Locking Options

M&T magnetic is designed for everyday opening and closing of swinging doors. Although the door leaf closes perfectly and holds firmly in the frame only by magnetic force, there are sometimes situations when it is necessary to securely lock the door or prevent unintended opening. This has been considered too! "All models of grip handles intended for Magnetic are also available in a version with cylinder locking or WC/bathroom security. In fact, with selected models, this is built directly into the handle's construction," says Roman Ulich, the chief designer of the Magnetic system and designer at M&T. An example of a model with integrated WC/bathroom security is the YES! handle, in which the hidden control segment is located at the bottom and to lock the door, you only need to turn it 90°. This offers a previously unknown experience, as the lock does not disrupt the design purity of the door leaf.

For Perfect Harmony with the Interior

The individual models of handles designed for Magnetic are characterized by a minimalist appearance and refined ergonomics. All handles are also available in various surface finishes: "On our products, we can offer a wide range of metal shades that create an important detail and thus the overall impression of the interior – from various versions of natural brass to special titanium surfaces in matte dark tones," states Roman Ulich from M&T, further explaining: "We apply a hard metallic layer to the control handles, it is not a spray or paint in RAL shade. For example, the titanium surface is applied to the fittings by physical vapor deposition with a plasma discharge, ensuring perfect adhesion of a uniform thin layer to the substrate material. This guarantees the high quality of our products." Handles made of solid natural brass are mechanically finished and allowed to age naturally. They will gradually change their color and character, acquiring a patina according to the surrounding environment and climatic conditions. "We are perfectionists and care about details. Therefore, we always strive to ensure that our products are perfectly coordinated down to the last detail, including the lock, control magnets, hinges, and even the heads of mounting screws," adds Roman Ulich.

What is Magnetic?

The patented M&T magnetic system, awarded the Red Dot Design Award for 2020, operates on the principle of very strong magnets placed in the door frame and their counterpart made of magnetic stainless steel embedded in the door leaf. When the two parts come close together, the magnetic force closes the door smoothly and almost silently, without the extension of any latch element. The closed door leaf is held firmly in the frame only by magnetic force. The strength of the magnets can be easily and intuitively adjusted with a small hex key.
