This year's cycle of lectures by Offcity architects will focus on the theme of urban development and planning and the related role of the urban architect. Therefore, the content of this and other evenings will not only include presentations by individual speakers but will also open a broader discussion on the function of the urban architect and how to develop and build the city's image. Guests in this year's edition will include both urban architects and officials and politicians who are part of the process of developing their city.
The guest of the inaugural lecture will be Irena Vostracká, Director of the Department of Conceptualization and Urban Development of the City of Plzeň. A city that has received the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture 2015. Irena Vostracká will attempt to answer how this title has already influenced Plzeň and how it may continue to influence it in the future.
Plzeň has hosted several architectural and urban planning competitions. What were the results, and how are these competitions being implemented? Plzeň is a relatively large city, approximately twice the size and population of Pardubice. However, there is no urban architect in Plzeň. Is the Department of Conceptualization and Urban Development in Plzeň a substitute for the role of the urban architect? Come join the discussion!
Entry fee: 50 CZK
Organized by the Offcity association in cooperation with Divadlo 29 as part of the OFFCITY 2014 project. This project is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the statutory city of Pardubice, and the Czech Architecture Foundation.
