Velké Meziříčí - The public competition for the reconstruction of the square and adjacent streets in Velké Meziříčí was won by the company Gardenline from Litoměřice with a bid of 286.3 million crowns. Of the four construction companies that applied for the contract, its price was the lowest. It is still possible to file objections against the decision, the city hall stated on the website.
The city will pay 225.8 million crowns, and an additional 15 million crowns will be contributed for the reconstruction of the water supply and sewage systems, for which most of the costs will be covered by the Union of Water Supply and Sewage Works of Žďársko.
"Given that the offered price is higher than we expected, the new contract limit will need to be approved by the city council at its meeting on February 25. Only then will the contract be signed with the company Gardenline," said Mayor Alexandros Kaminaras (for Together VM). The city hall will inform about the start of work after the contract is signed. It is expected that they will begin in the spring on Komenského and U Bašty streets.
The city hall began selecting a construction company for the reconstruction of the center of the eleven-thousand-strong town last November. Bids from applicants ranged from 286.3 million crowns from Gardenline to 291.9 million (including VAT).
Preparations for the modification of the square and adjacent streets in Velké Meziříčí were hindered for about six years by disputes in the city council, and a local referendum was even held because of this.
The renewal will involve surfaces, greenery, furniture, technical networks, and traffic regime, and it will be done in stages. The city hall expects builders to work this year and next year. The linden trees in the square will remain, but other trees will also be planted there. The paved center of the square will be cooled by water features in the summer. According to the city hall, the number of parking spaces will not change significantly, but they will be moved more to the outskirts of the center. Details about the project can be found on the website.
