Velké Meziříčí (Žďársko) - The city hall in Velké Meziříčí is preparing an architectural competition to redesign the city center. The council has already appointed the competition jury, which will include architects David Vávra, Vladimír Sitta, Ladislav Kuba, and Tomáš Jiránek. If everything goes according to plan, the city could know the evaluated competition proposals as early as July, Mayor Radovan Necid (ODS) told ČTK today.
"The names of the jury members are, for me personally, more than one hundred percent guarantee that the discussion of the proposals will be conducted objectively and professionally," said the mayor. The Czech Chamber of Architects will guarantee the legitimacy of the competition. The city plans to improve the appearance of the square and surrounding streets, among whose flaws are, for example, low-quality surfaces made of various materials. The competition proposals will concern a project with an estimated value of 50 million crowns.
Among the materials that competing architects will receive are the results of a survey among residents. Completed survey questionnaires can be submitted by Friday. In ten questions, the city hall asks people, among other things, what bothers them most about the square and if they most often visit it for walks, culture, or for official business and shopping. This week, a series of lectures by expert members of the jury of the upcoming competition will also begin in the city. Architect David Vávra will speak in the cinema hall of the Jupiter club on March 17.
The wording of the architectural competition task will be discussed by the city council and the jury next week. The competition will be announced if the proposal is also approved by the city council on April 5. In that case, the jury could evaluate the competition proposals in early July. Subsequently, they should be presented to the public in an exhibition. According to the mayor, the actual construction work on the center's modifications could start in about two years.
