Špindlerův Mlýn

Špindlerův Mlýn - The largest investment this year in the thousand-person Špindlerův Mlýn will be the reconstruction of the White Bridge in the city center, which is part of a larger Czech-Polish project with a total cost of 19.8 million crowns. More than 9.3 million crowns will be allocated for the actual repair of the bridge, and prices exclude value-added tax. The bridge repair is set to begin in the spring, city hall representatives informed ČTK today. Other significant investments this year include the repair of the bridge over the Red Stream and the construction of a trail along the Elbe.

The bridge structure over the Elbe, featuring typical white arches, dates back to 1911. "The White Bridge is in a state of emergency, reconstruction will start on April 22 with the handover of the construction site. During the repairs, it will be closed to the public. It should be completed by autumn," said Mayor Martin Jandura (Špindlerův Mlýn - a city with a vision) to ČTK. Funds for the repairs will come from the Interreg grant program.

The expected investment in the repair of the bridge over the Red Stream on the road to Špindlerova bouda is six to eight million crowns excluding VAT, the city will finance the reconstruction from its own resources. The planned timeframe for the work is in the second half of the year, with a possible start in September.

The construction of a path for pedestrians and cyclists, and for skiers in winter, along the Elbe from the Hromovka parking area to the P1 parking lot is expected to cost nine million crowns excluding VAT; the city hall anticipates receiving a grant from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI). Construction is scheduled for June to September.

The city hall will also repair some roads in May and June for a total of 2.6 million crowns. Planned repairs include the local part Labská from the intersection to the Swiss House guesthouse for 836,000 crowns and the repair of the road from the Labužník restaurant to the Myslivna restaurant for nearly 1.8 million crowns excluding VAT. The city hall expects to receive grants for both projects.

In the center of the resort, a private investor plans to transform a neglected area into a new square with services, accommodation capacities, and a parking lot. The design of the square at the site where the Špindlerovská hospoda stood until 2022 will emerge from an architectural competition. According to the city hall, this will be a key project for the future of the center. "The new city center is in the phase of an architectural study and public competition. The priority of the city hall is public space, a place for meetings, a new square, an underground parking lot," Jandura said to ČTK. According to him, several plots in the area have been acquired by the development company Penta Real Estate.

In the study phase and discussions with the company Melida is the project of connecting the ski areas of Svatý Petr and Medvědín via the P1 terminal. This is an investment by Melida, which operates the Špindlerův resort ski area. The city is not financially participating in the project, but is a participant in the building permit process. "The expected start of work is December 2026. This is an investment that will fundamentally influence the entire resort, and I will be very glad when the connection is realized," Jandura told ČTK.

According to representatives of Melida, the preparatory design work began in 2006. The investment in connecting the areas is spread over several years, and the cost is estimated to exceed one billion crowns. The first phase of the planned connection was related to the investment of 300 million crowns in slopes two years ago.
