Velké Meziříčí

Velké Meziříčí - Velké Meziříčí cannot yet sign a contract for the creation of project documentation for the adjustments to the historic center. Last November, the councilors selected the proposal from MCA Atelier of Miroslav Cikán, which finished second in the architectural competition. They did not take into account the result of the non-binding local referendum. According to the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS), there was a mistake in the procedure. Mayor Josef Komínek (ČSSD) told ČTK today that the city hall is considering whether to appeal the office's decision.

The ÚOHS decision was issued on February 22. According to it, the city made an error by rejecting late objections from architect David Mikulášek, whose proposal was evaluated as the best in the competition. Mikulášek requested a review of the procedure by the office. The city can file an appeal within 15 days of receiving the decision.

The architectural competition for the reconstruction of the square and adjacent streets took place two years ago. Last June, councilors decided to terminate cooperation with Mikulášek and began negotiations with the second architect in line. In September, due to disputes, Mayor Radovan Necid (ODS member elected for To pravé Meziříčí) resigned in response to the unexpected replacement of five out of seven members of the city council. The previous deputy mayor, Komínek, was elected in his place on October 31.

In the local referendum held during the October elections for the Chamber of Deputies, 64.5 percent of the 3,492 voters expressed support for negotiations with the winner of the architectural competition. Although the referendum was valid, it lacked one hundred affirmative votes for its result to be binding for the city leadership. The initiative that gathered the necessary signatures for the referendum today pointed out the ÚOHS decision to ČTK. According to its statement, the office's decision could facilitate the reconstruction of the center according to the winning proposal.
