Uherský Brod - The town hall in Uherský Brod in the Uherské Hradiště district is preparing to renovate the former hostel, which is part of the sports hall in the local area of Havřice. Instead of it, an dormitory for high school students with a capacity of 28 places will be created on the second and third floors of the hall. The reconstruction will cost more than seven million crowns. The work is set to begin on Monday and will last until September, said Uherský Brod mayor Patrik Kunčar (KDU-ČSL) to ČTK.

The Secondary School of Industrial Engineering and Business Academy of Uherský Brod requested the establishment of a dormitory for its students from the town hall. "Students from greater distances are coming and looking for accommodation," said deputy mayor Petr Vrána (NK). The reconstruction was approved by the representatives in June.

According to Kunčar, a study room, dining room, reception, and a room for four students will be created on the second floor of the building. One floor higher, in addition to the rooms, there will be a kitchenette and sanitary facilities. "The reconstruction will also involve the floors and utilities. Work will begin on Monday so that the dormitory can start functioning by September 15," stated the mayor.

According to him, the costs of renovating the building will amount to 6.6 million crowns, and the city will need to invest another half a million crowns into the interior furnishings. "We will negotiate with the Zlín Region as the school's founder about the amount and duration of the rent. Our demand will be at least over a ten-year period to recoup at least part of the costs in the form of rent," Kunčar stated.

The sports hall in Havřice was built between 1977 and 1982. The town hall previously had the building insulated, repaired the roof, and replaced the windows. The interior of the hall is still deteriorating, and next year, the city would like to undertake its renovation.
