Uherský Brod

Uherský Brod - Uherský Brod in the Uherskohradišťsko region is completing projects that follow up on the transportation terminal launched in April. Today, the city ceremoniously opened the so-called large stairs, which connect the transportation terminal with the historic part of Uherský Brod. The town hall has placed the names of 44 personalities associated with the city on them. These days, the renovation of 24 bus stops is also nearing completion.

The stairs are about 200 meters long, with a total of 87 steps. "The passage of time has significantly affected them, the granite cladding plates were falling off and it was necessary to comprehensively reconstruct them," said Patrik Kunčar (KDU-ČSL), the mayor, to Czech News Agency. The decoration with the names of the personalities who significantly contributed to the development of Uherský Brod was obtained for the stairs based on the initiative of the Uherskobrodští Patrioti association.

"It is truly a historical overview. The most famous personality is undoubtedly Jan Amos Komenský. We have the name of the founder of the Uherský Brod brewery, the names of notable Brod rabbis, and the founders of the museum. There are also participants of the resistance and many other personalities," described Kunčar. The names, birth and death dates, and a brief description of what the personality is known for are carved into the stairs. More information can be found in the information kiosk located at the stairs.

The renovation of the stairs cost seven million crowns. It was co-financed by the Swiss-Czech Cooperation Program, which also enabled the city to build the transportation terminal. The project originally, including the share of the Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC), was to cost about 140 million crowns. Through a tender process, the amount was successfully reduced by 40 million crowns. The funds were used in subsequent projects.

In addition to the renovation of the large stairs, the expansion of parking areas at the terminal is also completed. SŽDC is finishing the second phase of modifications to the train station, which includes the extension of the platform at the first track and a new platform for tracks two and three. The city is also completing the renovation of 24 bus stops with a total cost of 18.5 million crowns.

"Modern glazed new shelters have been installed here, and the stops approximately have a uniform appearance. The bus bays have been paved, curbs have been installed to meet accessibility requirements, and low-floor buses can access them. Access sidewalks have been repaved and the connecting pedestrian crossings have been illuminated," stated Kunčar.

The transportation terminal has connected bus, rail, and urban public transport. Twelve covered bus bays were created, along with a new operational building for bus drivers and dispatchers, and the train station building was renovated. Additionally, the city already built a bridge with a pedestrian access walkway in the first phase of the terminal's construction back in 2010.
