Uherský Brod (Uherskohradišťsko) - Uherský Brod will build a transportation terminal aimed at integrating public transport in the city at the current railway station. The costs for its construction, including VAT, amount to nearly 140 million crowns, over 109 million of which will be covered by a grant from the Swiss-Czech Cooperation Program to reduce economic and social disparities in the expanded EU. The start of work is expected at the beginning of 2013, Mayor Patrik Kunčar (KDU-ČSL) told reporters today. After the terminal is completed, railway and bus transport will be integrated at the railway station with a common platform having a capacity of 12 bus stands and one for rail transport. The platforms will be accessible without barriers and will be connected to the existing railway platforms. A relaxation zone for passengers will be created in front of the check-in building. The project also includes the construction of a sufficient number of parking spaces so that passengers from surrounding municipalities have somewhere to park their vehicles and can continue their journey by train. The project also includes the modernization of the existing Czech Railways check-in building, where services for passengers will be provided, including information services. The Railway Transport Administration (SŽDC), which is a project partner, contributes 38.2 million crowns to the costs, with a total of 101.6 million assigned to the city. From the mentioned grant, the municipality will receive 82.2 million, and SŽDC 27.1 million crowns. Thus, the construction of the terminal will cost the city treasury 19.4 million crowns. More than 11 million crowns will be invested by Czech Railways in the renovation of their building. Uherský Brod has been preparing for the construction of the transportation terminal since 2007 when the first architectural studies concerning the future appearance of the area near the railway station were created. In 2009 and 2010, the city built a bridge with a pedestrian access walkway as the first phase of the future terminal for about 45 million crowns. The city plans to initiate preparatory work for the tender for its second phase in May. The terminal is expected to be completed in September 2014.
