Uherský Brod (Uherskohradišťsko) - Uherský Brod is preparing to revitalize Masaryk Square in the city center and to renovate the so-called "kachlíkárna," a functionalist house in the same square. For the revitalization of the square, the town hall plans to obtain a European grant of over 24 million CZK for a total cost of 34.4 million CZK; the "kachlíkárna" will be repaired for 54 million CZK from the city budget, according to a decision made by the councilors. Mayor Patrik Kunčar (KDU-ČSL) told reporters today. The town hall would like to modify the square next year. It plans to reconstruct the sidewalks, roads, and outdoor stairs. "The main aim is to create maximum accessibility for pedestrians moving across the square," said Kunčar. The project also includes repairing public lighting, including the installation of festive lights, updating the furniture - benches, waste bins, bike racks, information systems, advertising boards, and placing a new fountain. Greenery will also be added, and new connections for the city’s public address system will be established. The "kachlíkárna," which previously housed the municipal savings bank, underwent construction modifications during the previous regime, and an extension was built next to it. It also features ceramic gray tiles on the facade. "This is almost the last unsightly building in the square, and it would be a great shame if it remained as it is even after the renovation," stated Kunčar. The town hall wishes to restore its former appearance and, for example, utilize the original counter hall. Currently, some departments of the town hall are located in the building, and in the future, other parts of the office that are currently located elsewhere are expected to move there as well. Residents of the city would then handle their affairs only at the historical town hall and the "kachlíkárna," effectively eliminating two existing detached workplaces. According to Kunčar, the work should begin no later than autumn 2014. "Provisionally, it could be completed in about a year to a year and a half," concluded the mayor.
