The renovations of the area in front of the train station in Olomouc have been completed

Olomouc - The Olomouc City Hall officially completed the final stage of extensive renovations of the area in front of the main train station yesterday, which the city has been gradually reconstructing since 2001. The investment has cost nearly 600 million crowns in total. Part of the final stage of the reconstruction included, among other things, the connection of tram lines running along Masaryk Street and Kosmonaut Street. Previous stages included, for example, the construction of an underground parking lot near the station.
    The reconstruction of the area in front of the train station has been divided into four phases. In the first two phases, in addition to the underground garages, a pedestrian underpass and a public area with a fountain were created in the location, in front of the Olomouc Regional Office. Part of the third phase included the construction of a new tram terminus. The first three phases of renovations cost about 330 million crowns.
    The last stage of repairs to the area in front of the station, which began last spring, included, among other things, the construction of a new urban public transport terminal. The costs of the last phase of the reconstruction reached approximately 260 million crowns, with about 100 million crowns contributed through a grant from European funds.
    "Thanks to this roughly nine-year investment, the area in front of the train station has received a completely new face; it is a very dignified entrance to the regional capital. Passengers should appreciate, for example, the new terminal that significantly simplifies the search for connections of the urban public transport and other private transport providers," said the mayor's deputy Martin Major (ODS) to reporters.
    Investments in the renovations of the area in front of the train station are among the largest investments by the Olomouc City Hall in recent years.
