OLMOUC - The space in front of the main train station in Olomouc is expecting further changes. The city hall will invest next year in the construction of a new roundabout in the area and in changing the parking method near the Sidia hotel. The city has been investing in the adjustments of the so-called pre-station area since 2001. It has already spent approximately 340 million crowns on the area. "The construction of a new roundabout near the post office at the station, the change in parking near the Sidia hotel, and the introduction of a bike path into the area from Jeremenkova street will be part of the planned final two phases of the pre-station area adjustments," said the mayor's deputy Miroslav Petřík to reporters today. He previously stated that the city hall will invest in the final phases of connecting the tram lines along Kosmonautů Avenue and Masaryk Avenue and in the adjustment of roads that will increase pedestrian safety and separate individual transport from public transport. "The council has supplemented the project, based on this decision we can complete the project documentation," said the deputy. The city intends to start the fourth and fifth phases next year and aims to complete them in 2008. Petřík was not able to provide an exact estimate of the costs so far. However, he estimates them to be over 100 million crowns. The city hall began the renovations of the area in front of the station in 2001. In the first two phases, the city had underground garages, a new underpass to the train platforms, and public space with a fountain in front of the Olomouc region office constructed, for example. The third phase included, for example, the construction of a new tram terminus and parking near the station.
