Olomouc is preparing the final adjustments to the area in front of the train station

Olomouc - The Olomouc City Hall plans to begin the final modifications of the area in front of the main train station next spring, which has been under reconstruction for the past seven years. The last two phases of the reconstruction are estimated to cost around 220 million crowns according to preliminary estimates. The city will attempt to obtain a subsidy for the project from European funds, said Deputy Mayor Martin Major today.
    Thanks to the fourth and fifth phases of the modifications, passengers are expected to see a new terminal for public transport. The bus stops, which are currently located in several places in front of the station, would be concentrated in one spot. The investment also includes the connection of tram branches leading to the station along Kosmonautů and Masarykova streets. The city intends to connect them in front of the Sigma hotel, thereby creating a new tram circuit in the city.
    The city council will announce a tender next week for the contractor of the project, which it hopes to select by autumn. By that time, the council will already know whether it has been successful with its EU subsidy application, which could amount to approximately 100 million crowns. "If we are successful, construction work will begin next spring and should last for a year and a half," specified Major.
    The city began modifications to the area in front of the station in 2001. In the first two phases, it built underground garages, a pedestrian underpass, and a public space with a fountain in front of the Olomouc Region headquarters. The third phase included, among other things, the construction of a new tram loop. The first three phases of the modifications cost approximately 350 million crowns.
