Olomouc - The number of areas designated for residential construction is likely to expand in Olomouc. At today's meeting, the councilors approved a proposal for an amendment to the zoning plan, which would accommodate builders. After the regulations of the area are changed in favor of housing, hundreds of new apartments could be built in the city. The set of changes to the zoning plan includes approximately 30 locations. In most of them, the city plans to change the regulations so that the plots can be used for residential construction. "Landowners are asking for a change on plots where one or two family houses can be built, as well as the owners of sites where apartment buildings could be constructed," said Mayor Martin Novotný (ODS) to ČTK. According to him, the change in the zoning plan would allow for residential construction, for example, at the site of the former brick factory on Balcárková Street, whose new owner intends to pursue its reconversion. The city hall also wants to change the regulations in favor of housing in the case of the former military repair plant in the Šibeník area. The Olomouc city hall has not built apartment buildings for several years and leaves their construction to the private sector. The construction of residential houses in the regional city is limited by the lack of plots. A handicap for Olomouc in residential construction is the presence of quality agricultural land in its vicinity. Last year, the number of started and completed apartments in the Olomouc Region increased year-on-year. A total of 1862 were approved, which is 5.4 percent more than two years ago. The number of initiated apartments increased by 5.2 percent to 2280.
