Jihlava - The Town Hall in Telč is considering opening the vaulted cellars beneath the historic house in Zachariáš from Hradec Square, where the House of Children and Youth is located. Archaeological finds that are currently stored in various depositories could be exhibited there, said Mayor Roman Fabeš (independent) to reporters today. The plan is part of a project to renovate the House of Children and the Town Hall, for which the city wants to apply for a grant from European funds.

In 2014, the city opened the first part of the underground space beneath the building of the Elementary Art School in the historic square. The House of Children is located a little further along the same row. In the already opened cellars, a museum has been established that introduces visitors to the city's history using digital technology. According to the mayor, there is now an idea to link both underground spaces with a passage. "But we will see how technically possible that will be," he stated.

The historic core of Telč is listed on the UNESCO list. The Town Hall would like to obtain a grant for the project, which amounts to about 50 million CZK, which includes the restoration of the House of Children and the construction modifications of the opposite Town Hall. "The House of Children and Youth is almost in a state of emergency regarding the building conditions; a complete reconstruction would take place there," the mayor stated. According to him, the Town Hall would primarily need new sanitary facilities, and modifications of the ceremonial hall and some offices are also planned.

In European funds, Telč is already applying for money to improve the facilities of two elementary schools, which involves investments of approximately 36 million CZK. Two projects have already received grants, namely for the renovation of the tower of St. Spirit and the construction of a bike path in Lipky. Both projects, with total costs exceeding 30 million CZK, are expected to begin this year.
