Telč (Jihlava Region) - Replicas of historical costumes, knightly armors, sound machines from Baroque theater, and other unusual educational tools will enliven the programs of the educational center that was opened today in Lanner's House, the location of the Telč office of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ). The center in Telč is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic, with others set to open soon in Bečov nad Teplou, Veltrusy, České Budějovice, Kroměříž, Hradec nad Moravicí, and Ostrava. This was announced to reporters today by the director of the heritage office, Martina Veselá. Children can, for example, wear a chainmail shirt and experience firsthand that simply walking in a shirt weighing 15 kilograms is no small feat. They will discover that visibility in a medieval metal helmet was minimal. "We want children to receive information through experience and to be able to try everything out and touch it. The goal is to present history to children in a way different from what they know from history lessons,” said Veselá. The educational center will focus on several target groups. It will offer specialized seminars for teachers of humanities subjects. For the professional public, it plans not only seminars but also lectures on the professional restoration of objects and items and on conservation. Training will also be provided for NPÚ staff in various professions. The center will prepare programs for schools, which will take place not only in Lanner's House but also in heritage sites in the Vysočina Region. The educational center opened today in Telč as part of a nationwide project funded by the Ministry of Culture. The aim of the project is to create educational programs for school groups, families with children, and the general and professional public.
