Prague - The capital city is preparing the construction of eight buildings for the needs of P+R parking lots, which should accommodate nearly 5000 cars in total. This year, two should start being built, one at Černý Most and another in Nové Butovice. At the same time, the city hall plans to start construction of two traditional parking lots in Kyje and Hostivar this year, making a total of eight. This follows from the materials for the cancelled meeting of the transport committee of the Prague council.


Prague has long faced problems with a lack of spaces in P+R parking lots. Their purpose is to relieve traffic in the city center by allowing commuters to leave their cars at the edge of the city and continue by public transport. Currently, there are about 20 of them in the metropolis, located near metro, bus, tram, or train stations. The lack of P+R parking lots is a frequently mentioned issue in Prague's transport, and politicians often talk about strengthening their capacities. However, very few have been created in recent years.

The parking house at Černý Most is set to be built on the site of the current P+R parking lot on Chlumecká street. It will offer a capacity of 880 spaces, and the city will spend 499 million crowns without VAT. According to the material, construction is expected to start this July and be completed by November next year.

Another parking house on Petržílkova street in Nové Butovice is expected to start construction in October, with completion planned for mid-2022. It is projected to cost 278 million crowns excluding tax and accommodate 379 parked cars.

The remaining six buildings are expected to start construction in 2022. They include a building at the Depo Hostivař metro station for 649 cars, a P+R at Opatov with a capacity of 498 spaces, an underground and above-ground facility at Zličín with 450 and 688 parking spaces, and a building on Tobrucká street in Prague 6 for 380 vehicles. The last mentioned parking house is part of the transport terminal project at Smíchovské nádraží and should accommodate 1000 cars.

In addition, the city is also preparing eight standard P+R parking lots with smaller capacities. Construction of the first one should begin this September, which will be located next to the Prague - Hostivař railway station and is expected to accommodate nearly 80 cars. It is set to cost 1.5 million crowns. Another similar parking lot next to the Prague - Kyje station, which will offer 50 spaces and cost the city 6.4 million crowns, is also expected to be completed this year. Next year, construction of additional parking lots in Satalice, Čakovice, and Lipence should begin, followed by Uhříněves and Horní Počernice a year later. According to the document, the start of construction for another parking lot in Horní Měcholupy is planned for 2023.
