Prague – The Prague City Hall plans to announce a tender for the construction of a parking garage for local residents on Vlastina Street in the Dědina housing estate, which is to be built near the planned tram line. Today, city councilors made the decision, and it will still need to be voted on by the representatives. The construction, costing 240 million crowns excluding VAT, is expected to start next year, and the three-story building will provide parking for 290 cars.

According to the document, the parking garage will replace spaces that will need to be removed during the planned construction of the tram line from Divoká Šárka to Dědina. The transport company intends to begin this project this summer. According to Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr, the construction of the tram line and the parking garage are technologically interconnected, and it is necessary to start building the tram first.

The building is set to offer three above-ground floors and a partially recessed basement, according to the approved document. The structure will be covered with climbing greenery. "The construction of this parking garage will complete the previously missing parking garage that was planned but not realized during the construction of the Dědina housing estate," the document further states.

Last year, Prague completed the construction of a P+R parking garage for 886 cars in Černý Most for approximately half a billion crowns. Recently, it started the construction of another garage near the B subway station at Nové Butovice, which will provide 400 parking spaces and cost 293 million crowns. The city hall plans further garages, for example, in Opatov in Jižní Město or in Zličín. P+R parking lots are primarily intended for commuters from Central Bohemia and aim to relieve traffic in the metropolis, but in the case of Dědina, it is a construction intended for local residents.
