Prague - The fourth municipal district had to stop two parking structure projects due to local residents' disagreement. These were garages planned on Pujmanová Street and under the garden of the Poláčkova Elementary School. CTK was informed by Prague 4 councilor Martin Hudec (ODS). The city hall is currently planning parking garages on Spořilovská, Jílovská, and Hurbanova Streets. On Pujmanová Street, the city hall proposed a garage with an elevator for approximately 100 vehicles. "There is a parking lot for about 47 cars at the location. However, it's a rather dark place and there are frequent break-ins there," Hudec stated. At the Poláčkova Elementary School, according to Hudec, people park in green spaces, and dirt tracks are often worn between the trees. "We were well aware that the project had its pitfalls, and that building anything under the garden of an elementary school is a problem. But we had no other location," the councilor noted. Local residents organized petitions against the construction of both parking buildings, which were signed by hundreds of people. As a result, the city hall halted the projects. "People mainly do not want anything built under their windows. Everyone says it's a great idea, but somewhere else," Hudec believes. Prague 4 city hall is currently preparing another three parking buildings. The farthest along is the project on Jílovská Street, which already has zoning approval. In Hurbanova Street, the municipal district still needs to resolve issues with the land, which belongs to the city. On Spořilovská Street, the project is not yet in accordance with the zoning plan. However, even in these cases, part of the population disagrees, even though the parking situation is critical in some areas, according to Hudec. "We are placing garages on the blind side of the house and trying to explain to people that garages are not some smoking monster. Nevertheless, some people think that the projects are crazy," Hudec stated. Most urban districts in the wider city center are grappling with a shortage of parking spaces. In Prague 1, 2, 3, and 7, the situation has improved after the introduction of parking zones.
