Prague - The P+R parking garage at Černý Most will be built for the Prague City Hall for 498.8 million crowns excluding VAT by the companies BAK Construction and Metrostav. This is according to the public procurement bulletin. The building is expected to offer a capacity of 880 spaces. According to earlier information, construction should start in the middle of the year and be completed by the end of next year. The city plans to build more similar parking facilities. Prague has long-standing issues with the lack of spaces in park-and-ride lots.
The purpose of P+R parking lots is to alleviate traffic in the city center by allowing commuters to leave their cars at the edge of the city and continue by public transport. Currently, there are about 20 of them in the metropolis, located near metro, bus, tram, or train stations. The shortage of these parking lots is a frequently mentioned problem in Prague's transportation, and politicians often talk about strengthening their capacities. However, only a minimal number of them have been created in recent years, with the last P+R parking lot in Běchovice-střed opening at the end of last year.
The parking garage at Černý Most will be located near Chlumecká Street on the site of the existing ground P+R parking facility with a capacity of 294 spaces. Drivers will be able to walk from the parking lot to the nearby metro station B.
The City Hall recently obtained a building permit for the construction of another parking garage on Petržílková Street in Prague 13. Its capacity will be 360 spaces, part of which will serve local residents and part as a P+R parking lot. The costs are estimated at 278 million crowns excluding VAT and it is expected to be completed by mid-2022.
In addition, the City Hall plans the construction of another six parking garages, which should start in 2022. These will include a garage near the Depo Hostivař metro station for 649 cars, a P+R at Opatov with a capacity of 498 spaces, an underground and above-ground facility in Zličín with 450 and 688 parking spaces, and a garage on Tobrucká Street in Prague 6 for 380 vehicles. The last parking garage is part of the transportation terminal project at Smíchov Railway Station and should accommodate 1,000 cars.
The city is also preparing eight standard P+R parking lots with smaller capacities. Construction of the first, which is to be located near the Praha - Hostivař railway station and accommodate almost 80 cars, is expected to begin this September. By the end of this year, the parking lot at Praha - Kyje station, which will offer 50 spaces, should also be completed.
