Brno – A 25-meter swimming pool in Lužánky, Brno, will be built by Metrostav for 250 million Czech crowns. The city council made this decision, city representatives told reporters today. According to Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS), the city has received a grant of 90 million Czech crowns from the National Sports Agency. The construction should be completed in 2023. There is already a 50-meter pool in the area.

The Mayor’s Deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) stated that construction can begin promptly and will take about two years. The operation of the current 50-meter pool will be fully available, but it will have limited activities or be closed for a few weeks due to the integration of operations.

The new pool will have eight lanes. It will be located where a 16-meter school pool used to be. The councillor for sports, Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL), mentioned that after the construction of the 25-meter pool next to the 50-meter pool, a sports venue will be created that can host international swimming competitions. "I am glad that this sports facility will be established. There are not enough swimming facilities in Brno. The pool will complement the existing 50-meter pool and will serve both athletes and training," added Vaňková.
