Brno - A football stadium, a multipurpose hall, and other sports facilities may be built behind Lužánky Park in Brno, confirmed a feasibility study. According to it, the new Ponava Sports and Entertainment Complex could withstand heavy traffic even if large events were held simultaneously at the sports venues. Today, Deputy Mayor Robert Kotzian (ODS) informed ČTK about this. Thanks to the results, the city can proceed with completing the investment plan for building the complex, which the municipal authorities will discuss in July. The study was based on the intention to build a football stadium for 30,000 spectators, a multipurpose hall for 14,000 visitors, a swimming stadium for 550 people, and an aquapark for 1,750 visitors. "The study confirmed that the construction of all facilities is feasible regarding traffic," said Kotzian. The study considered the necessary number of parking spaces for each facility as well as the scenario of them being filled at the same time. It also examined the capacity of the surrounding transportation infrastructure and the connection of the area via Sportovní, Provazníková, and Generála Píky Boulevard to the Great City Ring Road. It assessed the availability and capacity of public transport and connections to cycling paths and pedestrian routes. "The positive results of the traffic servicing study are an important basis for continuing the preparation of a full-fledged sports complex behind Lužánky," said Kotzian. According to him, the next step will be to complete the investment plan for building the sports and entertainment complex, which will be discussed by the council and the assembly. All sports facilities are expected to cost up to three billion crowns. Brno will look for ways to raise the necessary funds.
