Brno - The construction of a new football stadium in Brno at Lužánky has received a positive opinion during the environmental impact assessment EIA. This information comes from documents on the EIA information portal. Currently, it is planned that construction could start next year and be completed in 2020. This is one of the priorities of the current leadership of Brno.

The new stadium, shaped like an ellipse and clad in red bricks, with fully covered stands, is designed to accommodate 30,000 seated spectators. The old stadium, built after World War II, was abandoned by the football team Zbrojovka in 2001. Two years ago, a farewell match for Petr Švancara was played here, and various sporting events are held here, but the stands are unusable. The old stadium will be completely demolished.

The new stadium is to have one underground and eight above-ground floors, reaching a height of 30 meters. Almost 500 parking spaces will be located under the stands. Additional hundreds of parking spaces are to be created near the swimming stadium. To simplify transportation, the extension of Sportovní Street to four lanes is also planned.

In addition to the necessary facilities for football, the stadium will also include commercial facilities independent of the football calendar. A restaurant, accommodation, a sports equipment store, a grocery store, and a fitness center are expected to operate.

There are also plans for the construction of a hockey stadium nearby, though no specific timelines are currently available.

Since leaving the stadium at Lužánky, Zbrojovka's footballers have been playing at the stadium in Královo Pole, where the average attendance does not even reach 5,000 people per match. The construction of the new stadium is estimated to cost around two billion crowns.
