The football stadium project will undergo revision.
Brno - According to the head of the sports commission of the city council and representative Jiří Zorník (ODS), the current city representation is not retreating from the plan to build several sports facilities in Brno even during the crisis. The football stadium was mentioned first, which is to be located in the traditional area behind Lužánky. Architects had previously developed a study for the city according to which the currently devastated and unused stadium would be transformed into a modern facility. According to Zorník, its revision is now being considered. "The documentation counts on 30,000 spectators. We consider a stadium size similar to the one recently built by Slavia, which accommodates 18,000 to 20,000 spectators, to be sufficient," he said. The project is said to be adjusted. The final decision will be up to the city council and the representative assembly. The second plan is the construction of a multi-purpose sports hall, which is to serve primarily for ice hockey. According to long-term plans by the city hall, it was supposed to be built next to the Lužánky football stadium, but Mayor Roman Onderka (ČSSD) came up with the vision of building it in the western part of the city near the Masaryk University campus five years ago. He advocated for the construction at a time when the ODS was in opposition, but no investor could be found. The hall was supposed to include a shopping center. According to Zorník, the matter is now being reevaluated. "We want to assess which option will be more advantageous," he said. He also mentioned a water sports canal in the Brno-South district as another plan. However, according to him, neither of the plans is far enough along that the constructions would be realized in this electoral term. "We will deal with these matters and potentially prepare projects and studies," he said. The city hall, on the other hand, is retreating from the construction of the Janáček Cultural Center with a concert hall for the Brno Philharmonic. There is reportedly no money for the construction, so it wants to adjust the acoustic conditions of the Janáček Theater for the needs of the orchestra. This has drawn criticism from the opposition.
