Brno – Brno is looking for a company to build a 25-meter swimming pool at Lužánky. The estimated costs are 205 million crowns, stated Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL), the deputy mayor, in a press release. The city will try to obtain a grant for part of the costs. There is already one pool at the site, measuring 50 meters.
The council of Brno today approved the initiation of the procurement procedure for the contract. "Next year awaits us one of the largest sports investments in the city. A new 25-meter pool will be added to the 50-meter pool at Lužánky. This will allow international swimming competitions to be held at this swimming stadium, and it will also serve for school swimming and the public. If everything goes smoothly, the selected company will start work in February next year. It should be completed by Autumn 2022," stated Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).
According to Hladík, the construction of the pool is important. "One of the main reasons is the general lack of swimming facilities in Brno. As a result, the demand for organized swimming and public swimming is not met. At the same time, there is a lack of pools in Brno for mandatory school swimming training, and some students have to travel outside the city because of this," Hladík said.
He added that the pool will have eight lanes and there will also be a smaller one for children for swimming lessons. "The new pool will also serve for heats during various swimming competitions," Hladík added.
The new pool will be located where there previously was a school 16-meter pool, a rowing simulator, and in the spaces under the unused park at the main entrance to the facility. It is planned to use current technologies for its operation. "We consulted the project with representatives of swimming sports. Our goal is to build a pool suitable for swimming competitions, water polo, heats during international competitions, and so on. The dimensions have been adjusted to comply with the rules of the International Swimming Federation," said the councilor for sports, Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL). At the same time, the entrance to the current pool will be renovated, along with partially updating the facilities and adjacent areas.
