Ústí nad Orlicí

Ústí nad Orlicí - Czech Railways received four offers in a tender for the purchase of the unused historically protected building of the historical railway station in Ústí nad Orlicí. CTK was informed by the spokesperson of the state company Radek Joklík. According to him, the second round of selection will take place in the coming weeks, and the highest price will determine the decision. Among the offers was one from the company Oustecké nádraží, whose members have long been interested in saving the building. According to its managing director Martin Kadrman, the sale of the property will be a success, regardless of who buys it, he told CTK.

"Our goal was to reopen the question of the station and find its use. Either we will find it or the new owner will. If it’s not us, that’s not significant at this moment. The station will come back to life, and that is the most important thing," Kadrman stated.
The company Oustecké nádraží would like to create facilities for passengers in the historic building, mainly a waiting room, café, restaurant, and possibly a grocery store. In the first floor, the company plans to reconstruct apartments. "We already have the first interested party," Kadrman stated. One of the founders of the company, which was established in October, is director Olga Sommerová, who has long been involved in its preservation.
The building has a total area of nearly 1790 square meters of indoor space. Czech Railways set the minimum price at 1.4 million crowns.
The use of the railway building is complicated by its location in the railway yard; it has no access for vehicles. However, overall it is not in poor condition, although significant investment will be necessary for the renovations of the long-neglected property.
The original station, dating from 1874, is among the oldest station buildings in the country. It was designed by architect Rudolf Frey. The building, with an H-shaped floor plan and stone cornices, is constructed of raw brick, with the upper floors made of less common half-timbering. It is interesting, among other things, because it stands in the middle of the railway yard and is passable, so that dispatchers and passengers can walk to both sides. It has been out of operation for several years; after the modernization of the railway junction, a new dispatch building was created in Ústí.
