Ústí nad Orlicí - The Town Hall in Ústí nad Orlicí does not reject participation in the use and operation of the local historical train station. However, it currently has no idea how to deal with the dilapidated building. It is quite far from the center. Mayor Richard Pešek (ODS) told journalists today. The station building was supposed to be demolished to make way for the railway corridor, but after a long time, it is now definitive that it will not be torn down. However, there is no money for repairs. The association "We Won't Give Up the Station" wants to negotiate with the city to come up with a joint plan for its use. "I am sending a message that I have not come up with anything. No one here has figured anything out. The station in Chocni was restored for outrageous millions. Since then, almost the entire building has been unused and suffers," said Pešek. The station building stands unusually in the middle of the tracks. The Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) has prepared a proposal to modernize the railway corridor while also preserving the historical building. However, the property belongs to Czech Railways, which refuses to pay for the repairs. SŽDC does not need to build the station as such. It just needs technical facilities. The corridor, worth 2.4 billion, was supposed to be constructed last September. Due to the efforts of the association "We Won't Give Up the Station" to declare the building a cultural monument, construction work has been postponed indefinitely. The positive decision of the Ministry of Culture is still not valid due to appeals that Czech Railways have filed twice. According to the mayor, in the case of the station, it is not a cathedral of St. Vitus; there are many similar buildings in the former Sudetenland areas. The station designed by architect Rudolf Frey also stands in Všetaty, he noted. "Due to the association, the construction of the corridor will be delayed by two to three years in my opinion. We have a crisis here; there were supposed to be 200 to 300 accommodated workers here from September, who could have spent money," said the mayor. Against Pešek speaks an online petition signed by 12,000 people. The preservation of the station building from the second half of the 19th century, with a plan in the shape of the letter H and half-timbered walls, has also been supported by the documentary filmmaker Olga Sommerová, for example.
