Ústí nad Orlicí – The protected former ticket office building at the Ústí nad Orlicí railway station is going up for auction. The company Oustecké nádraží is offering it for 2.96 million crowns, with the auction scheduled for December 2nd. This is indicated by the auction announcement on the JR Dražby website, which was highlighted today by the news server Zdopravy.cz.
The starting price was set just slightly higher than the expert assessment, which valued the property at nearly 2.87 million crowns. Access to the building is only via the land of the Railway Administration. The neoclassical building from 1874 was to be demolished for the modernization of the railway corridor and the construction of a new station. Activists have been striving for its preservation since 2008, and in 2010 they succeeded in having the building declared a cultural monument.
Currently, three partners are behind Oustecké nádraží: Pavel Prchal, Ladislav Růžička, and Martin Kadrman, writes the Zdopravy server. The company purchased the building from Czech Railways in 2016 for 1.5 million crowns. However, they have not managed to find a use for the property. According to the server, two of the three men are in favor of the sale, while Kadrman is opposed.
The station, designed by architect Rudolf Frey, is among the oldest station buildings in the country. The building with an H-shaped floor plan and stone cornices is made of common brick, with the upper floors built of less common half-timbered construction. The property ceased to fulfill its original function when the then Railway Transport Administration (SŽDC) built a new ticket office nearby.
