Žďár nad Sázavou

Žďár nad Sázavou - In Žďár nad Sázavou, people will commemorate 290 years since the consecration of the pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelená hora this Saturday. The construction by the famous architect Jan Blažej Santini-Aichl will be the focus of this year's Klášterní noc. The program will include lectures and concerts, as well as an evening festive lighting of Zelená hora. Stanislav Růžička from the castle information center told ČTK today.
The memorial church will be lit up at 21:30. "The entire Zelená hora will be illuminated with large lights installed just for this occasion. It will truly shine far and wide," Růžička stated. The light installation will also commemorate 20 years since the first Czech monuments were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Elements of buildings from this list will be projected onto the walls of the cloisters, Růžička mentioned. Zelená hora has been a UNESCO monument since 1994.
Klášterní noc will begin in the castle grounds, where a Cistercian monastery was previously located. The opening will be handled at 18:00 by art historian Richard Biegel with a lecture titled "Journey for Santini." This will be followed by a concert of baroque music, a tour of the baroque art exhibition, and a festive concert in the basilica. After the lighting of Zelená hora, the program will continue in the pilgrimage church.
The church of St. John of Nepomuk was built in the shape of a five-pointed star, a symbolism derived from the legend of the saint's death. The initiative for the construction came from the abbot of the Žďár monastery, Václav Vejmluva. The ceremonial consecration of the church took place on September 27, 1722. The National Heritage Institute now takes care of the monument. Church restitutions apply to it.
