Jihlava - The Jihlava City Hall approved the assignment and competition conditions for a limited architectural competition for the design of a multipurpose sports hall. The hall is intended to replace the Horácký Ice Stadium, whose roof is reaching the end of its lifespan. The city is expected to announce the competition around the middle of next week. The results of the two-phase competition should be known in September. This was stated today by architect and councilor David Beke (ODS), who is responsible for the project.

"The first phase of the competition will involve adding three studios that we have already selected to three more studios that will be chosen by a professional jury based on submitted portfolios of their reference buildings," said Beke. According to him, the six studios will be announced in May. The following three months will be dedicated to developing the designs, which will then be evaluated by experts invited by the jury. These can be representatives of operators, economic experts, or specialists in energy and the environment, according to Beke. Their assessments are intended to help the jury better evaluate the proposals. The evaluation will take place on September 12 and 13. The city hall will negotiate with the winner in a non-public procedure to commence the design work.

Jihlava plans to build a hall in the area of the old stadium in the city, where ice sports will be possible, as well as other sports such as volleyball or tennis, and even cultural events. There should also be space for shops, a café, and services. Construction of the new hall could start in 2021.

The stadium, which was built in 1956, is home to the Dukla hockey club. The sports facility and the club belong to the city. The construction of the multifunctional hall at the site of the old stadium was approved by the councilors in December. They changed the approach set by the local government in the previous election period, which focused on partial repairs of the old stadium and the construction of a new hall on the outskirts of the city. The newly elected option, according to the leadership, should have costs of up to 750 million crowns.

A temporarily installed mobile hall is to provide an ice surface for Dukla during the reconstruction of the stadium.
