In January, before the regular exhibition of semester and final works begins, practical work at UMPRUM is virtually non-stop. Nervousness and the pace of work increase before the defenses, and students complete their final exams. You can see how they fared in this semester from January 25 to 29 at ARTSEMESTR winter 2019. The ARTSEMESTR exhibition is intended to show how UMPRUM students gradually improve and prepare for independent careers as designers, architects, or graphic artists. It illustrates their ability to handle various assignments, address the technical aspects, and collaborate with classmates or clients outside of school. The exhibition will present both semester projects that students work on throughout the semester and final works that they develop independently within a limited time. Often, the semester project intertwines and complements the final assignment. This semester, the tasks were very diverse and spanned various fields. We can mention the project of the Fashion Design Studio, which prepared a special collection for the exhibition Zika and Lída Arscher at UPM. The Letter and Typography Studio contemplated the appearance of Czech banknotes and designed its own series, while the Film and Television Graphics Studio established creative cooperation with the Memory of the Nation. There are also realizations for specific clients, such as the Product Design Studio, which worked on elements for a private spa for the company Gessi, and the Interior and Furniture Design Studio, which designed exteriors and interiors for an inn in the Bohemian Paradise. The Clothing and Footwear Design Studio continues its successful collaboration with Baťa and is preparing a collection of shoes, from which a pair will again be selected for production and sale worldwide. This year also marks the first presentation of work from the new Photography Studio II, which focuses on applied photography. This year, students photographed the Designblok 2018 exhibition and prepared materials for the Designguide catalog. In addition, they worked on a student magazine project called FEAT. The work of all studios will be on display in the school hallways until Tuesday, January 29. During this time, UMPRUM will transform into one large gallery, with individual installations placed in studios, hallways, and other areas of the building.
