Do you remember that moment when you entered a room or perhaps just touched a wall that evoked a feeling of something you already know, something that feels close and intimate to you, yet you were facing a completely new reality? This is exactly the magic of “the familiar yet entirely new” that world-renowned Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola works with in her new collection Tierras by Mutiny. It was first introduced in April in Milan, and we will have to wait until the end of September 2014 for the first official product photographs.

The main inspiration for the collection comes from the process of sedimentation, drawing upon centuries-old experiences of Mediterranean craftsmen. The collection works with eight types of volcanic stone, terracotta, and clay, utilizing all their nuances, details, and peculiarities. All materials are used to enrich and soften the black base made of recycled ceramics, which occasionally shines through to the surface.

Many creators claim that their collections are dynamic. With Tierras, this does not need to be stated. This collection radiates dynamism, malleability, and energy even when using only a few products. They are designed in large formats, featuring irregular shapes and surfaces, allowing for unique and original compositions in contrasting colors.

I have long searched for a real and tactile material that does not pretend to be something else. I sought something that would feel warm, pleasant, and invite you to touch it,” says Patricia Urquiola about her collection. “I wanted the collection to be one hundred percent contemporary, while drawing from proven experiences and the history of ceramics. The result is a return to roots for me and a return home, which feels familiar even though we are experiencing it for the first time.”

Tomáš Bartošík from the company Archtiles, which will feature the collection in its offerings, attended the presentation of the Tierras collection.
