A detail connecting dozens of diverse doors in one project... with exactly this intention, the new iconic collection of door hardware ICONIC was created by M&T and designer Barbora Škorpilová.
70 types of doors with one handle acting as an iconic connecting detail. The gently rounded curves naturally harmonize with every style of door and interior. The Czech family manufactory M&T, after fifteen years, has resumed its successful collaboration with architect and designer Barbora Škorpilová from the studio Mimolimit and together they have created the ICONIC handle. "The design of the ICONIC handle was born while working on the reconstruction of a palace in Malá Strana, whose history dates back to the Gothic period. This building contains 70 types of doors, for which it was necessary to ensure they function in a contemporary manner. Although it is a historic palace, there were demands for panic hardware, as well as door opening through cards and fingerprints," states Barbora Škorpilová from the studio Mimolimit, who sought a connecting element—a detail in the form of a handle—for such different doors. "Therefore, we created a timeless, seemingly simple and ordinary handle ICONIC, which is however functional in shape and proportions across the centuries," she adds.
In addition to the door handle, the collection also includes a small handle and a grip handle for the exterior side of entrance doors. The massive brushed stainless steel from which the new iconic model is made provides the hardware with high strength and very good mechanical properties. It also serves as a high-quality base for the final surface treatment. "We offer our handles in hard metal surfaces that are technologically challenging to produce," says Roman Ulich, the chief designer of M&T, a leader in surface treatments, and adds a list of surfaces available for the new collection: "The ICONIC handles are available in six color variants of exceptionally durable titanium surface – titanium chrome matte, titanium brass matte, titanium bronze matte, titanium brown matte, titanium black matte, and titanium graphite matte, as well as surface finishes in structured black matte and white matte." To achieve perfect harmony of the entire door set in detail, individual surfaces can be applied not only to the handles but also to locks, bolts, hinges, and other elements of door hardware.
