The new collection of three-layer wooden floors Beyond Retro by the Swedish manufacturer Kährs embarks on a colorful flirtation with the past, created in connection with the eighty-year anniversary of the company receiving a patent for the multi-layer construction of wooden coverings. Six nostalgic decors, according to their creators, would have found doubles in previous years, from the 1930s (decor Loft White) to the 1990s (decor Frosted Oat).
The largest European manufacturer of wooden coverings, Swedish Kährs, which is exclusively distributed by Kratochvíl parket profi (KPP) in our country, has been setting trends, both design and technological, for over 150 years. One of the first patents was the aforementioned multi-layer construction of wooden floors, which meant a lot for the development of floors made from this material – multi-layer coverings are shape and dimensionally more stable than classic solid wood when temperatures and humidity change, allowing for floating installation as well as installation over underfloor heating. And of course, it is a production method that is more eco-friendly, as the so-called yield of noble trees is significantly higher for multi-layer coverings than for solid floors.
Kährs commemorated the anniversary of the technological patent in a design realm, with the new collection Kährs Beyond Retro featuring natural, calm decors that would fit in the interiors of past and contemporary years. “The new collection has two distinct benefits; the first is undoubtedly the surface with an ultra-matte finish, which I consider the most beautiful surface of today. It allows the beauty of the wood to shine more, as it does not suppress it unlike satin and glossy finishes, which in modern glass-walled and therefore significantly brightened interiors can affect the visual impression from the floor with glare. People want a matte surface that looks like oil, but at the same time, no one wants to take care of such a floor as they would an oiled floor, meaning with regular re-oiling, etc... The ultra-matte finish does not require such maintenance, yet looks like oil,” explains Aleš Viktorin, head of regional sales at Kratochvíl parket profi, adding the second benefit of the new Kährs Beyond Retro collection.
“The second advantage is the variability of the format, each decor is available in 1-strip, namely in the classic two-meter plank (2000 × 187 × 15 mm), and also in 3-strip (2423 × 200 × 15 mm), in a smaller parquet format, which is not common in other collections. This dual execution allows for the combination of one decor in differently sized rooms, for example, people might choose 1-strip for the main living area and for small children's rooms, where 1-strip does not make sense, they would use the 3-strip format while maintaining the same decor. When they then open the doors between the rooms, a color-coordinated floor presents itself, without disruptive decorative deviations,” praises the new collection Aleš Viktorin from KPP. And to ensure that the impression is truly perfectly coordinated, each decor also has its own perimeter, transition, and step edge, eliminating the need to search for “similar” colored accessories.
Kolekce Beyond Retro: Inspirováno minulostí, navrženo pro budoucnost
The Beyond Retro collection is designed for interiors where classic details flirt with memories of past decades, yet the overall look has a timeless and modern design. And how do the designers of the Swedish brand Kährs see modern interiors inspired by the furniture, decorations, and colors of past decades?
1920: Decor Loft White
Shake, do not stir – gently combine vanilla ice cream with gray tones and apply colored staining lightly on the surface of the floor to highlight the rustic naturalness of the wood with all its "imperfections," thanks in part to the ultra-matte finish.
1950: Frozen Hazelnut
A knitted, wonderfully soft cashmere scarf, what else evokes a cozy interior. A subtle stain emphasizes the natural rusticity of the wood with an ultra-matte finish.
1960: Decor Charcoal Light
The taste of dried raisins soaked in hot chocolate. A stain in a dark brown shade combined with the rusticity of the wood brings a unique decor with a surface finish in ultra-matte lacquer.
1960-1970: Decor Urban Brown
A sunset in the park of a big city. The subtle coloring of the floor, where knots and cracks of the wood stand out, is completely natural and creates a warm atmosphere in the interior, again with an ultra-matte finish.
1970: Decor Pearl Grey
River stones smoothed by turbulent water. The gray stain creates beautiful patterns and highlights the rustic grain of the wood. Again with an ultra-matte finish.
1980: Decor Frosted Oat
Look at the harvested autumn oat fields with a light crust of frost - the rusticity of the wood stands out again under a gentle white and transparent stain, whose natural design is enhanced by the ultra-matte finish.
