The floor revival has been marked by the return of the herringbone pattern in the installation of wooden floors. A style that originated many years ago in bourgeois houses and castles is now experiencing a renaissance. It is therefore no surprise that the new collection from Kratochvíl parket profi has embraced this trend. Its name KPP Château Herringbone leaves no doubt: Six natural oak decors in oversized dimensions of the parquet planks (725 × 130 × 14 mm) are a reminiscence of the past, while harmonizing with contemporary interior design.

Castle collection of parquet for modern interiors

French castles and country estates have inspired the naming of the new collection of three-layer wooden parquet KPP Château Herringbone (Oak Chambord, Oak Apremont, Oak Clagny, Oak Crussol, Oak Anjony, Oak Aguilar). "Today, pure natural oak is number one, no dark colors, and the new collection offers these most attractive shades. Additionally, bleached oaks are an interesting alternative. The natural look is emphasized by brushing, micro-beveled V grooves around the entire perimeter of the parquet, and a surface finish in the form of oils or matte varnish," introduces the castle collection Aleš Viktorin, regional sales manager of Kratochvíl parket profi, and confirms the justification for the noble name: "The attractiveness is enhanced by the oversized format of 725 x 130 mm compared to the classic sizes of 470 × 70 or 490 × 70. The floor in this large format appears more luxurious. An advantage is also the click joint, the floor does not need to be glued, it can simply be laid in a floating manner."

The herringbones are back

Wood has always been a more luxurious covering, thus initially it was used mainly in castles and in bourgeois houses. Various complex laying patterns were devised, cassette patterns were created, castle crosses, inlaid patterns, and classic herringbones. It all depended on the imagination and skill of the craftsman. The pattern that has transferred from historical castles to modern settings is the herringbone, where smaller format parquet planks are laid in a "V" shape. It got its name based on the shape, reminiscent of the skeleton of the herring, the most common fish on our planet.

In our country, the term herringbone has taken hold, but the term fishbone and the English name herringbone are also used. Before 1989, we became quite saturated with this laying method, but since the 90s it has faded away, and today the trend of herringbones is returning as an unfamiliar and fresh style for younger generations. "It is currently gaining popularity and is used in modern luxury realizations; even manufacturers of SPC and vinyl floors, such as Kährs or Arbiton, are introducing it, even though it was the domain of wooden floors," confirms Aleš Viktorin, regional sales manager of KPP.
