On the occasion of the largest exhibition of Eduardo Souto de Moura at Casa da Arquitectura (running until March 2021), we decided to dedicate the entire winter semester to the creators in the second largest Portuguese city, where two Pritzker Prize winners live and work together. Additionally, in September 2020, Brazilian architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha (another Pritzker Prize winner) decided to donate his entire archive of 8,800 items to the Casa da Arquitectura in Matosinhos. It is currently one of the most significant architectural institutions in the world.
After nine previous cycles focused on architectural creation in a specific country, this autumn we will head to a city located on the Atlantic Ocean. The goal of six lectures will be to explain the continuity of Porto's architecture from the Carnation Revolution to the present. Subsequently, in spring 2021, we will dedicate the entire semester to the Basel-based architects Herzog & de Meuron. Lectures by Petr Šmídek take place at the Faculty of Architecture of the Brno University of Technology for all interested in contemporary architecture every even Tuesday in room A118 from 5:00 PM.
