After the previous seven cycles focused specifically on architectural works in certain corners of the world, this spring we will venture into neighboring Germany. Lectures by Petr Šmídka will take place at the Brno FA VUT as part of the master's course XX2 every Monday at 9:00 AM in room A118.
This year we commemorate the centenary of the founding of the famous German school Bauhaus, which completely transformed the approach to art education and architecture design. However, we will not only reminisce, but during the lecture cycle Germany as 2019, we will present a comprehensive architectural spectrum of our western neighbor. German works are often categorized as rational creations seeking justification in constructional minimalism or austere classicism. The aim of the eleven lectures will be to present the continuity of German architecture from the mid-18th century to the present day, which was not interrupted even by the revolutionary efforts of the Bauhaus. We will also analyze the contemporary scene with the differences of various federal states as well as the inclinations of the creators themselves.
